Lund University
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has around 46 000 students (27% international) and more than 8 400 staff based in the main campus of Lund, with smaller campuses in the cities of Helsingborg and Malmo.

Lund is very much a traditional European university town, with a history of learning dating back centuries. In terms of demographics, it has one of the youngest populations in Sweden, and Lund University is considered to be one of the most prestigious universities in Scandinavia.

The University offers one of the broadest ranges of programmes and courses in Scandinavia, based on cross-disciplinary and cutting-edge research. We are currently offering around 130 international full degree programmes (taught in English) at Master’s level, 9 at Bachelor’s level, and several hundred single subject courses.

The unique disciplinary range encourages boundary-crossing collaborations both within academia and with wider society, creating great conditions for scientific breakthroughs and innovations. The University has a distinct international profile, with partner universities in around 70 countries.
We provide education and research within the following areas:
  • economics and management
  • engineering and technology
  • fine arts, music and theatre
  • humanities and theology
  • law
  • medicine
  • science
  • social sciences

Students experience an open, informal study environment with teachers and students usually on a first-name basis. The traditional academic hierarchy is replaced by a more collaborative approach, where students are respected as junior colleagues and their opinions valued and encouraged by more experienced peers. This approach encourages dialogue and collaboration between students and teachers and creates opportunities to bring forward new ideas and innovations. The student is at the centre of the education provided at Lund University. There is a lot of support in terms of pedagogy and the teachers make themselves available to help students and ensure course content is fully understood. There is a focus on enabling students to develop their critical and analytical thinking skills, independent research skills, group work, problem-solving and leadership skills so as to prepare them for their career.

Lund University is proud to have a strong international profile – we attract students from over 130 countries. This creates global classroom environments where students encounter different cultural perspectives and start to build their international network.
